    Radiator Support Information

The radiator support in a car serves a few purposes. Its primary function is to secure the radiator to the engine assembly frame and protect it against the heat and vibration from the engine. Parts of the support connect the radiator to its upper and lower rails, while also attaching it to the side aprons of the engine's assembly frame. The unit is therefore subjected to many rigorous elements during routine driving. In addition to supporting the radiator in relation to the engine, the radiator support also serves as a structural element for other components. The alignment of the hood and car's fenders is controlled by this support. Sitting on the chassis frame, it also includes mounting points for headlights and horns. The radiator support is therefore an integral component of the vehicle's frame. Most support assemblies for the radiator are designed to last as long as the engine, but they are constantly exposed to harsh elements so this is not always guaranteed. Heat and pressure are quite intense under the hood when driving, and there are many vapors that emanate from the engine as well. Contaminants such as salt and debris from the road can make their way inside and present other hazards. These all can take their toll on the support over time, and it is not out of the question that it might have to be replaced at some point. When it is in top condition, the support ensures that heat is dispersed properly from the engine, and that the radiator itself is in the right position to function as it should. The system should be inspected by professionals. If there are any signs of wear, degradation could be accelerated and the part might fail sooner than expected. Proper maintenance will ensure that the radiator support, radiator, and engine will last as long as possible.

    Radiator Support

Don't gamble with your cooling system. A faulty radiator support has the potential to come loose, causing complete havoc if you're driving at highway speeds. Bent supports can also contribute to various other problems, like the premature failure of radiator hoses. Replace your support if you're having problems, and avoid costly calamities down the road.

Radiators need these parts to hold them in place. The metal has to be resistant to heat and corrosion. It also has to be sturdy enough to occasionally take a few light bumps without warping. Firmly secure your coolant system with a replacement radiator support that measures up to factory standards.

We have Gates, Dayco, Genuine, APA/URO Parts, Motorcraft, Goodyear, Mopar, AC Delco and ContiTech radiator supports at, but that's only a small percentage of our total stock of parts and accessories. We have millions of other items to supply all of your projects. Get everything shipped fast with a 30-day return policy. The best part is that every single item is on sale for up to 80% off of list price.

    What is a radiator support?

Your radiator support is a sturdy metal piece welded to the frame of your vehicle. It holds the radiator and, depending on the design of your vehicle, several other parts:

    • Fan shrouds
    • Radiator fan
    • Horn

You might be able to see where it connects to your inner fender walls if you pop the hood. Otherwise, you'll need to remove some body elements to examine this part. Each replacement radiator support here is designed to meet or exceed OEM specifications for structural strength and resistance to heat and corrosion.

In addition to your standard factory replacement support, there's also a special type of support available for performance situations. The big engines in hotrods often call for an oversized radiator in order to help the cooling system keep up with added heat production. When you upgrade your radiator, install a specialized radiator support to keep everything bolted securely in place.

How much is a new radiator support?

Performance radiator supports used to stylishly secure an oversized radiator usually cost somewhere from $40-60. These parts bolt into place and require very little hassle during installation.

A replacement radiator support that welds to your frame costs, on average, somewhere between $110-600. It also takes hours of removal and reinstallation of body elements, welding, painting and realigning frame elements if necessary.

What are the signs of a bad radiator support?

A front-end collision is, by far, the number one cause for problems with this part. Small knocks might loosen a bad welding job, but it's more likely to be damaged when you're in an accident that's rough enough to bend the metal.

If you have the opportunity to check this part visually, look for bent metal or cracks. Otherwise, keep an eye out for replacement parts, such as radiators and radiator fans, that don't fit correctly. It's also a good idea to investigate your radiator support if you're getting unexplainable vibration while you're driving.
