Exhaust System Information

Your vehicles exhaust system routes waste gases from the engine to the outside air. Your carís system consists of five parts: The exhaust manifold, the oxygen sensor, the catalytic converter, the muffler and the exhaust pipe. Each has a crucial role to play. The exhaust manifold collects exhaust gases from each engine cylinder and puts them in one pipe. Exhaust manifolds are usually made of cast iron, but can also be made of steel aluminum or stainless steel. Exhaust manifolds are typically designed to hush exhaust noise. The oxygen sensor measures how much oxygen is in the exhaust. It talks to the engineís computer, which adds or subtracts fuel so the fuel injectors get the right mixture for maximum fuel economy. Depending on the manufacturer, the oxygen sensor may be in the exhaust manifold or further down the line in the exhaust pipe. The catalytic converter, mounted between the exhaust manifold and the muffler, is a pollution-control device that takes harmful carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons and converts them to harmless water vapors. The muffler muffles sound. Most mufflers use baffles to dissipate the exhaust and reduce noise. The exhaust pipe runs the entire length of the car and connects all of the other parts together. Exhaust pipes made of stainless steel are the most corrosion-resistant. Turn to us when you need expert advice on exhaust.

What is an automotive exhaust system?

This system is designed to reduce harmful gasses that are released into the air during the engine’s fuel-burning process. In addition to decreasing the pollution from exhaust emissions, the system is configured to lessen the level of noise the engine produces. It is made up of several important components including the exhaust pipe, catalytic converter, muffler and exhaust manifold. Because this system is joined to the engine, each part of it plays a valuable role in improving the vehicle’s overall performance.

How much does a new one cost?

Consider several criteria to get a correct price. The make, model and year of your car or truck determine which system is appropriate for you. At PartsGeek.com we have an enormous variety of stock to meet your requirements. In our catalog, you can find prices from $340 to $1500 for a replacement system. Our search feature allows you to quickly enter a few specifics about your vehicle to find an exact price for what you need.

What is a cat back exhaust?

The connected area that follows the catalytic converter is referred to as the cat back exhaust. A resonator, muffler and rear pipe commonly function in this capacity. There are also other pipes that may be part of the system based the model you have. The advantages of this exhaust include the following:

  • You can purchase one with the sound-altering characteristics that you prefer.
  • It improves fuel consumption.
  • It decreases the strain on your engine.
  • You can choose a selection that enhances the visual appeal of your car or truck.
