In Arabic and the language of the Berbers of North Africa, the word shiraqa refers to the desert winds of the Sahara; the ancient Arabs even believed their famous horses were descended from such a wind. The horses under the hood of your Volkswagen Scirocco may not be Arabians, but those horses can still keep it running like the desert wind – provided that regular maintenance is performed on schedule as the manufacturer recommends. When those times arrive, don't be afraid to spend a nickel and get the best components you can afford – because skimping on those elements can make for costly repairs up the road.

Volkswagen Scirocco
The Volkswagen Scirocco coupe first appeared in 1974. This third-generation car, with the nameplate revived in 2008 after a 16-year hiatus, dresses up the VW Golf's basic architecture in a sportier body. It underwent a facelift in 2014, with the interior remodeled and a trio of dials mounted in a pod on the top of the dashboard. The Scirocco was masterminded by the company's current chief of design, Walter de Silva, and for the facelift the car is fundamentally unchanged. Unless you're a dyed-in-the-wool VW aficionado, you'd be hard pressed to notice any big differences. But it does look better, and will catch more than a few eyes. The cabin, however, fails to live up to the exterior's stylish standards, and it is here that the Scirocco is dismally out of date. Build quality is solid, but the dashboard is old-fashioned. There's lots of old-generation switchgear, too. Still, you get decent kit levels, with leather seats and two-zone climate control. Unlike most coupes, the Scirocco can handle three adult passengers, although the low roofline and shallow windows make things a bit pinched for those in the rear seats. Tinted glass and dark interior materials don't help either. Visibility through the fixed rear headrests and letterbox-shaped rear screen is limited, so it was a smart move to standardize rear parking sensors.
The Sport setting, which includes Adaptive Chassis Control, stiffens the dampers, and sharpens throttle and steering responses. The extra weight added to the steering might become tiresome however, so there's a handy Individual mode where you can mix, match, and save your favorite settings. Most versions come with non-adjustable suspension that provides a pretty comfortable ride on all but the roughest surfaces. Consequently it's no major chore to drive a Scirocco every day over long distances. Comfort is good in Comfort and Normal modes, but Sport is a little too bumpy. The Scirocco's handling is grippe and predictable, complemented by accurate steering and an electronic stability system that allows just enough play before it applies its steadying hand. Some say it is an icon reborn. Others, that it is Volkswagen shamelessly pillaging its back catalogue. A few even suggest it is simply a Golf GTI in a short black skirt. But one thing is for sure. The Scirocco blends the funky spirit of the original with modern practicality and driving satisfaction.
The Scirocco has only been mildly facelifted, with all of the reputable mechanical components being carried over, so poor reliability shouldn't be an issue. Still, owners have reported problems in a 2015 survey, including a cracked piston ring that caused engine damage, a failed water pump, a broken air-conditioner, and a failed super charger. Should your Scirocco suffer such injuries, be happy to know PartsGeek.com can supply you with high quality yet affordable Volkswagen Scirocco oem and aftermarket parts. There is never an excuse to be driving around with your vehicle in less than optimal condition when PartsGeek.com is right at your fingertips.
