Audi S4

The Audi S4 has been manufactured since 1991 at its plant in Ingolstadt, Germany. The S4 is Audi's model in the high performance entry level luxury market. From 1991 through 1994, the S4 was based on the Audi 100 sedan. After a pause in production, the S4 has been based on the Audi C4 luxury sedan. The S4 was introduced in the United States in 1999. The Audi model has been consistent throughout its life, using a four door, five seat model and a five door, five seat model since 1991. A later two door convertible model was introduced in the third generation model in 2003.

The Audi S4 uses a longitudinally mounted, internal combustion engine. Over its model life, the engine has increased in size from a 2.2 liter to its largest 4.2 liter, eight cylinder version. The most recent model, the B8, uses a 3.0 liter, six cylinder block, which puts it in the same market as the BMW 335i and generates an impressive 333 horsepower. The transmission is also mounted longitudinally directly behind the engine. The S4 has also offered a six speed manual transmission. Where available, there is a more powerful model nameplated as RS4. Other safety and high performance features include anti-lock braking systems on all models and an optional "servotronic" system that matches the power steering system to road conditions to provide a consistent driving experience. Audi has developed many optional products for its S4. A good list of Audi aftermarket parts and Audi S4 performance parts such as those found at would be a valuable asset for the S4 owner.

In 1997, the Audi S4 sold nearly 28,000 units in the United States. In part because the Audi serves the high end market, sales of units have remained at about that level throughout Audi's history in the United States. Audi continues to develop its models and technologies, including a piloted vehicle model available in 2017. Another technology being introduced in 2017 for Audi is a computer app that allows the customer to design, purchase and take delivery of selected Audi models.

In 2013, the S4 was rated at the top of the safety lists. In 2016, it has been demoted to "poor" by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety due to its front facing crash test results. The 2016 model does provide many updated safety features including blind spot rear view cameras, LCD daytime running lights and a lane departure warning system. In 2016, the Audi S4 ranges in price from a base of $35,000, but package add ons can easily bring the price to over $50,000. Although the A4 and S4 are scheduled for a complete redesign in 2017, the models still rank very highly, even when compared to the more expensive and somewhat more luxurious BMW and Mercedes models in this same category of luxury performance models. Although Audi problems forums have listed problems with the S4, stalling and excessive oil usage among them, the Audi gets consistently high marks for comfort, performance and reliability.

Perfect fit. OEM parts. Rotors and pads were boxed together with no padding and I am surprised that nothing fell through the large holes in the beat up box.
