The Honda Prelude is a model that's been around for years. A lot of car models die out after a while as consumer desires and demands change. However, some things are great just the way they are, and consumers know that. The Prelude is one of the cars that's achieved that level of greatness and popularity and people who own a Prelude often drive it for years and years rather than trade it in on something that they might not like as well, just so they can have a newer car. One great thing about the Honda Prelude is that repairing them is usually not that difficult, and you can get a lot of parts for them quite easily. Be sure they're high-quality, though, so your Honda will continue to give you great service and good looks for years to come.

Part Number: 66-4162
Brand: A1 Cardone
Notes: CV Axle Assembly
  • A new axle retaining nut is supplied with every unit for a hassle-free installation, due to the likelihood that the original retaining nut is worn or stripped
  • Boot clamps are pneumatically crimped, creating a perfect seal between the boot and housing
  • CV Drive Axle measurements are validated after assembly to ensure a proper fit
  • CV Drive Axle part numbers with an "HD" suffix are severe-duty applications and include a thermoplastic outboard boot for increased life and durability versus a traditional neoprene boot.
  • High-quality grease withstands high-temperature and high-torque demands to ensure long-lasting, reliable performance
  • Neoprene boots are designed with additional bellows, when needed, to resist bellow stress and cracking, which is the leading cause of boot failure
  • Proprietary engineering processes ensure that all CV Drive Axles meet O.E. form, fit and function
  • Splines are precision rolled to ensure proper fit of CV Drive Axle into the mating hub and transmission, which eliminates installation hassles
  • Threads are precision rolled to ensure proper fit when axle nut is installed
  • Transmission seal diameter is precision-machined after heat treatment to ensure correct surface finish, promoting long seal life

Honda Prelude

The Honda Prelude is a two door sports coupe that was produced by Japanese automaker Honda from 1978 until 2001. It was the company's first venture in designing an exciting car that stayed true to the core Honda values of intelligent design and reliability. Loosely adapted from the Honda Accord, The Prelude was used by Honda to introduce the Japanese Honda retail sales chain called Honda Verno. The Prelude name was originally trademarked by Toyota, but was given to Honda for use, the first in a series of vehicles from Honda with musically related names, being later joined by the Quintet, Concerto and Ballade. Over the next two decades, the Prelude became the primary performance car in the Honda lineup. Although it was outfitted with relatively powerful engines in later generations, the Prelude was not a muscle car. Its pluses were handling and drivability, while providing enough power to remain competitive. Over its lifespan, several new Honda technologies, including fuel injection, four-wheel steering and Honda's Active Torque Transfer System, were pioneered on the Prelude. Although the Honda Prelude was very popular throughout the '80s, consumer interest waned in the '90s. It was simply too expensive, and lacked sports car looks or a sufficiently premium feel. By the turn of the millennium, the sport coupe market was a shadow of its former self, and Honda dropped the Prelude without a replacement after the 2001 model year.

As a used car, the rewarding and reliable Prelude merits serious consideration from budget-conscious shoppers. Those searching for a used Honda Prelude, will likely be encountering the fifth and final generation, which was sold from 1997-2001. It was larger, heavier, and more dynamic than the previous models. Despite its above average performance, the Honda Prelude was inadequate in other areas. The interior boasted high-quality materials and construction, but it lacked visual pizzazz. Honda's conservative approach, which included painting the cabin with a monochromatic color scheme, didn't cut it with the artistic minded. The fifth-generation Prelude has aged a little better, as that restrained interior design now seems classier and less dated than brash designs like the contemporary Toyota Celica. The other Honda Prelude worth considering is the fourth-generation model. A complete overhaul of the previous model, this Prelude was slightly shorter, much wider and a far better-handling car.

There are a few potential problems of which the owner of a used Prelude should be aware. If you encounter any of them, you can feel secure in knowing that PartsGeek.com has the correct fix. The front brake rotors can warp and cause a vibration when braking. The rotors will need to be machined or replaced to correct this issue. On certain models the primary oxygen sensor heater can fail and cause the Check Engine light to illuminate. Replacing the Oxygen Sensor will fix this problem. On some models an overly sensitive transmission control module, along with contaminated transmission, fluid can also cause the Check Engine light to illuminate. Flushing the transmission and replacing the TCM usually repairs this issue. Again, remember that PartsGeek.com has a full catalog of Honda Prelude oem and aftermarket parts to return your vehicle to its optimal working order.
