BMW M6
The BMW M6 is a powerful vehicle with subtle curves. It comes in a coupe or convertible, and BMW manufactured it until 2018 when the company replaced it with the M8.
The M6 is a mix of a grand tourer and sports car. It first hit the market in 2005. There were some similar previous models, but they weren't quite up to M6 quality. Looking through it's lifespan from 1005 to 2018, we can see there are some notable points in the timeline that helped shape this as a fan favorite.
2005 to 2010
The first five years BMW has the M6 in production were its introduction period. BMW didn't do much in the way of changes because it didn't really need it. The car was selling well, and buyers were not issuing a lot of complaints about the features and options.
The first generations featured a V10 engine with a 7-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission. It had a quad exhaust and stiffened suspension.
Most notable in this period was a carbon fiber roof, which added style but not weight. The interior had leather upholstery with front bucket seats to allow for quick maneuvering without sliding around. As with any sport car, the back seats offered little in way of leg or head room, but for most owners, this was not an issue as they knew what they were getting buying a sporty design car.
2012 to 2014
The next period for the M6 ran from 2012 to 2014. In these model years, the car got a twin-turbo V8 with two turbochargers. For even more performance, it also featured a gasoline direct injection system. The M6 at this time also got adjustable suspension and steering with a lip spoiler on the trunk and a chrome rounded kidney grille.
In addition, BMW provided a couple of notable options starting in 2012. You could choose LED headlights for a brighter shine and more visibility. Another option was a carbon-ceramic brake system, which can help make brakes more reactive and functional.
2014 to 2018
In 2014, the BMW M6 went through a mild refresh. From this point until BMW stopped production on this model, there were some changes to the overall look. The M6 received reshaping to the headlights and a more open grille. BMW also redesigned the bumpers and rims. New interior colors rounded out the subtle changes.
More notably, BMW introduced a couple of other changes that would have bigger impacts than just aesthetically. The brand introduced some additional aerodynamic features and increased the engine efficiency. Both changes helped improve performance.
Wrapping Up
It is important if you have an M6 that you know which group it is from. This will help ensure that you get the right BMW M6 parts. Knowing the different periods of production can also ensure that you find the M6 that best suits you. While the vehicle didn't really see major changes as often happens with lines, there are still changes throughout the years that could impact your decision when you choose a model year to buy.
