Porsche Cayman

The Porsche Cayman is a sport coupe that came out in 2005. Basically, it is a hard top version of the Porsche Boxster convertible roadster, which was introduced in 1996; in fact many Porsche Boxster parts are interchangeable with those made for the Cayman. Named for the alligator-like reptile that dwells in the jungles of South and Central America, the Cayman remains in production to the present day. This vehicle has a mid mounted engine, with rear wheel drive, making it closer to the sports cars that Porsche is known for. Today, it is ranked second among the top twelve modern day sports cars, earning a rating of 9.3 out of ten from U.S. News and World Report.

Based on the Boxster, the Cayman was introduced for the 2006 model year. The base model is equipped with a 2.7 liter V6 that leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to acceleration. Most buyers go for the larger 3.4 liter V6 that comes with the S and GTS models. There is also the top of the line GTS4, with a 3.8 liter V6 putting out 385 horsepower and 309 foot-pounds of torque. That engine is enough to take the Cayman from zero to 60 in just over 4 seconds and propel it at a top speed of over 180 miles per hour. All Caymans come standard with a six speed manual transmission, however, a seven speed dual clutch automatic is available as an option on the S and GTS trims.

Despite its size and power, that engine does pretty well when it comes to fuel consumption, getting about 30 miles per gallon on the highway and 20 in town. The base model feels underpowered when compared to its BMW and Mercedes competitors, but it is adequate for most driving. Models equipped with an automatic transmission tend to do better on speed and acceleration than those with the standard trans.

All Porsche Cayman models do very well in the handling department. Thanks to the mid-engine mounting, the vehicle is very well balanced and rides smoothly at fast speeds along twisting roads. Brakes are excellent as well, able to stop the vehicle from 70 miles per hour in only 145 feet. One appeal that the Porsche Cayman has for drivers is the sound of the exhaust. For an extra $2800 or so, buyers can have the Sport Exhaust option, which makes that sound even better for some ears. Otherwise, you may think that paying $52,000 for the base model is quite enough.

While the base Cayman model is not quite as sporty in terms of handling and performance as the higher trims, one can add Porsche Cayman performance parts to enhance those aspects of the vehicle. When shopping for Porsche Cayman parts, your first stop should be The price tag on most German car parts can strike terror into the hearts of the most doughty souls, but at PartsGeek, you'll find some of the lowest discount prices around.

I have the Sebro slotted Brake rotors on my Porsche Cayman S and I am very pleased with their performance. I track my car often and the OEM drilled rotors would begin to crack and fail tech inspections in a short time. The slotted and vented Sebro's are priced well and a bang for your buck. - Sebro Slotted Rotors

The product was exactly what I expected, but when it arrived, it was a box within a box, and the inner box was completely destroyed. Fortunately no damage to the parts within, but there was a ton of dust all over everything inside, and it really made me wonder whether this was a customer return, overstock that's been lying around for a long time, etc. The partsgeek website is not exactly informative. - Product as expected... packaging not so much
