Volkswagen Cabriolet
The Cabriolet was a variant of the very popular Volkswagen Golf model automobile. The Volkswagen Cabriolet was introduced in 1979. There were three generations of Golf Cabriolet, with major updates introduced in 1993 and 1998. The Volkswagen Cabriolet was discontinued in 2002 as Volkswagen introduced the New Beetle and Eos models to take its place in the Volkswagen lineup.
Volkswagen introduced the Golf family of compact, small family cars in 1974. The Golf models have historically been the top-selling cars in the Volkswagen lineup, and among one of the most successful car models in the world. In addition to the Golf GTI and MK1, the Golf family included such well known variants as the Rabbit and Jetta. The Cabriolet (or Cabrio) was a convertible version of this well-loved automobile, first introduced as the Golf Cabriolet or the Rabbit Convertible, but eventually the car was re-branded as the Cabriolet.
Contrary to some gossipy rumors, the Volkswagen Cabriolet was not simply a VW Golf "with the roof chopped off." The Cabriolet body was designed to be a convertible with a reinforced chassis and roll bar for safety. The Cabriolet was built by Karmann company, which was the world's largest independent motor vehicle manufacturing company in Germany at one time. The Karmann company installed the Volkswagen-supplied engines, suspension, and interior components into the Cabriolet. The Volkswagen Cabriolet offered convertible tops in either vinyl or cloth, and the tops were heavily insulated for increased interior comfort in colder weather. The convertible tops were manually operated until 1991 when an electric top option was made available.
While the basic body of the Cabriolet did not evolve throughout the life of the model, designers did change the bumpers, wheel well, and side skirts to make the car appear to be more visually streamlined and modern. Additionally, the Volkswagen Cabriolet was offered in a number of sub-models with varying trim packages and other options. Some of the sub-models included the Azur, Bel-Air, Best Seller, Etienne Aigner, and the Wolfsburg Edition. The various editions were distinctive for their color combinations and included options like leather-wrapped staring, sport seats, sound system upgrades, cruise control availability, and even heated front seats. The Volkswagen Cabriolet had a number of different engines included during its long production run. All of the engines were four cylinder engines, with the average horsepower rating in the 55 to 70 horsepower range. Some more powerful four cylinder engines were introduced which increased the available horsepower into the 95 to 110 range.

Exactly what we needed to keep the engine cool, only issue was the plug had to be modified because the alignment ridge did not line up. - Troy
Bosal includes the tail pipe, unlike the others. Makes it easy to switch out. No meessing around with getting the old tailpipe off the muffler, if you are going to use it again. Way more convenient this way. PartsGeek had some of best prices for parts. - Reinman
