Chevrolet Astro

Introduced in 1985, the Chevrolet Astro van was marketed as a step up from the "minivan" and was really more of a mid-sized van that competed with the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. It was built with powertrain components in common with General Motors' light truck lines, and the Astro had a 5,500 lb towing capacity. The Astro was a rear-wheel drive van which seated up to eight passengers and ran on either a 98 hp four-cylinder or 200 hp V6 engine. In 1990, an all-wheel drive option was added, making the Chevrolet Astro the first US mid-sized van with all-wheel drive.

The 1990 refresh came at the half-way point of the first Astro van generation. Improvements and options made during this time included updated dashboard features, hydroboost braking, and an extended body option. Over the next five years, additional upgrades included modified door options, an electronically-controlled 4-speed automatic transmission, fabric protection on the cloth seats, new paint colors, and more environmentally friendly air-conditioning systems.

In 1995, Chevy introduced the second generation of Astro van. The exterior took on a new look with a slightly more extended front end which made the Astro look less like a minivan and more like a full sized cargo van. Some new features were added over the next ten years, including a redesigned dashboard, passenger side air-bags, larger wheels, upgraded suspension systems, and larger brakes.

In 1996, the Chevy Astro received a "poor" rating in a crash test administered by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The institute concluded that the safety of the occupant compartment was insufficient and left "little survival space" for the driver, in the event of an accident. By 2000, the Chevrolet Astro had improved the head-on collision evaluation and had continued to receive high scores in side impacts. By the end of the Astro van's production life, the IIHS issued a statement that during the years of 2002-2005, fewer people were killed in Chevrolet Astro vans (per one million vehicles on the road) than any other passenger vehicle in the United States.

These improvements in safety and design weren't enough to save the Chevrolet Astro from the eventual fate of all makes and models. The last Astro came off the assembly line in May of 2005. There are still many Chevrolet Astro vans on the road, including a growing number of Astro vans that have been resurrected and retrofitted as van homes for people who travel and work from all around the United States. That means, there's still a big need for Chevy Astro auto parts. If you are turning your 2004 Astro Van into a mini-mobile home, or you just need Chevrolet Astro performance parts to keep your old work-horse running, you might want to check out a site like Because has harnessed the power of the internet to offer Chevrolet parts for sale so you can find what you need fast and have it delivered right to your door.

Fast 3 day west cost delivery of Order, product pricing was lowest I could find , thought I would try the premium Nippon Den-so brand as product features offer extended reliable service, includes anti seize compound , was easy to replace , I got lucky old unit was not tight or corroded in place, comes with factory style plug , I did add extra protection using some good quality electrical tape and zip-tie to secure & seal the protective sleeve up at the connector base , and made sure wires were not rubbing or touching any sharp or hot surfaces. Solid looking product and is thus for working great,no more service engine light after I cleared the codes and driving for a few days . saved a bunch of $$$ by replacing my self.
