Before the Saab 9-5, there was the Saab 9000 – the first full-sized “executive sedan” built by the Swedish company that was first a manufacturer of jet aircraft. The last Saab 9000 was sold in the U.S. in 1998, but there are still quite of few of these finely-engineered vehicles on the road. Perhaps you own one yourself. If so, you understand the importance of proper maintenance. The Saab 9000, “born from jets,” is a remarkable machine, but it won't stay that way by itself. Make sure that when shocks and struts begin to wear or spark plugs begin to foul that they are replaced with high-quality components as recommended by the manufacturer.

Saab 9000
Between 1984 and 1997, Saab produced the large 9000, which came with various body styles: liftback and sedan. As with many high-end vehicles, there were options on the Saab that were decades ahead of their time, which led to this vehicle's popularity among Saab fans. Though sales never reached the levels of other more prominent brands of luxury cars, the Saab 9000 had a significant presence on the auto scene throughout the late 1980s and 1990s.
When it was first introduced, the Saab 9000 featured five doors in a liftback design. Liftback cars generally have a shallower slope on the rear door; whereas hatchbacks have a more vertical rear door. The liftback on the Saab 9000 increased truck space for carrying additional cargo. After 1987, the liftback continued to be the base model for the Saab 9000, even after other body designs such as a sedan and alternative liftback were introduced. Saab released the CD sedan body in the 1988 model year, and by the 1991 model year, the liftback got a facelift and a new name, the Saab 9000 CS. Cars that retained the original liftback design were called the Saab 9000 CC from then on. Aside from the overall body of the vehicle, each new design contributed to updates of the grill, lights, and more. Though these updates were not applied across all the body styles of the Saab 9000 at the same time, they were eventually put into effect on all body types.
A special model, the Saab 9000 Aero, was released in 1993. This turbocharged design was the most powerful in Saab's lineup. It featured a 225-horsepower, 2.3-liter engine, but Saab 9000 Aero parts that included an automatic transmission limited the engine's capabilities to only 200 horsepower, which was still higher than the horsepower on any of the other Saab 9000 variants. Those looking for Saab 9000 performance parts are typically seeking components for the Saab 9000 Aero variant, as this was the highest performing version of the 9000.
As a luxury vehicle, the accessories and options on the Saab 9000 were well ahead of their time. As early as 1988, all 9000 cars had a Saab Informational Display. This state-of-the-art display showed the amount of fuel used and how long a driver could go before needing a fill-up. Though such information is standard on today's vehicles in the mid-2010s, it was revolutionary for the late 1980s. The SID also indicated the battery charge, temperature outside the vehicle, and how much voltage the alternator was putting out. It could even alert the driver of the possibility of black ice on the road. By 1993, the computer components on the car got more innovative, with the introduction of the option to add the SCC trip computer that warned of excessive speeds and could give trip mileage.
The Saab 9000 was a well-designed car, but as an import, it may be difficult to find Saab 9000 parts from the usual outlets, but with a quick search online, you can find an enormous Saab 9000 parts catalog at PartsGeek.com.
