Research on Wheel Hub for Saturn Ion

Given the importance of the wheel hub, you don't want to be stuck with a bad one, literally. Your Saturn Ion's wheel hub lets the wheel spin with minimal friction, while keeping it secured to the vehicle. It's not the most common thing for the hub to wear out. It can, however, get damaged or wear prematurely. When it does, the effects on you ride can be quite noticeable. Replacing the wheel hub assembly will restore the stability and safety of your car.

Reasons a Wheel Hub Can Go Bad

The most common signs you may need, for example, 2004 Saturn Ion wheel bearing replacement include noise. Roaring or rumbling sounds can mean the bearing is wearing out. It may also be cracked, misaligned, or lacking lubricant. In the case of a broken wheel bearing, both assemblies on the axle will have to be replaced. A faulty wheel hub will also cause the steering wheel to vibrate. The higher the speed you travel, the worse these vibrations will be. The steering wheel may feel loose as well. This can be felt whether your traveling straight, turning, or going through dips in the roadway. Clicking is another Saturn Ion wheel bearing noise you might hear. It means that the brake caliper is involved. Any of these signs should prompt you to get to a mechanic. They will thoroughly inspect the vehicle; one of the things they'll look for in relation to the wheel hub is if the tire/wheel wiggles a lot when the car is on a lift. If so, the wheel hub must be replaced.

What Is a Front Wheel Hub Assembly?

The one-piece assembly has been used in cars built since 1998. Consisting of a hub and bearing, it also features the wheel studs onto which the wheels attach. These studs pass through the brake rotor as well. The 2003 Saturn Ion wheel bearing is a perfect example. It features the hub, bearing, speed sensor, and mounting flange as part of one piece.

How Long Does It Take to Change a Wheel Bearing on a Car?

Replacement time is around two hours. The actual time varies depending on the tools available and how much experience the install has. At a certified mechanic, the repair can take less time and you can be back on the road sooner.

Saturn Ion Wheel Bearing Replacement Cost

You will pay $362 to $475 for 2004 Saturn Ion front wheel bearing replacement on one side. For both front wheel hubs, it is $702 to $923. A rear hub will cost you $351 to $461 and both will set you back up to $868. The price of parts drives up the bill, but this means that you can save substantially by ordering them from PartsGeek.com. Owners often put off replacements and repairs to save cash. We understand the concern and pass on the savings of a low overhead so customers can spend less on auto parts available exclusively online. You can restore the stability of your ride, and safety, by replacing a wheel hub and bearing that has been damaged or become worn out. Your car will ride like new once again.

Reviewer: Very Good but not Great!

This is a very good wheel hub assembly with literally only one shortcoming. The ABS sensor wire is about 3/8 inch shorter than the original so bracket bending was required. Otherwise installation went as expected.
