Research on Tie Rod for Toyota Pickup

Your Toyota pickup truck has a very important suspension system that needs to be in great shape if you are inclined to use its ability to tow often. Regular driving and carrying extra weight behind puts a strain on all the suspension parts. The tie rod in your truck probably has more wear and tear that it is subjected to than some of the other suspension parts. It is in use every mile that your truck is driven down the road or off-road. The purpose of the tie rod is to work with the other components of the steering and suspension to properly steer your truck straight down the road. It connects the wheel to the steering and suspension. If you have tie rod problems, then the alignment is affected.

Alignment Issues

If you are looking for a Toyota pickup truck for sale make sure you drive it first. Get on a straight and level piece of road and while driving the truck, take your hands off the steering wheel just for a moment. If the truck is in alignment, then it will continue to drive a straight path down the road. If it is not, then either very gradually or abruptly the truck will veer to the right or left. Often this is a sign of worn out tie rod ends or the complete tie rods. This can cause slow or rapid tire wear on this vehicle. If the tires on a Toyota pickup wear out prematurely because you need a tie rod replacement, you will feel the strain in your checkbook. Another indication about faulty tie rods is a knocking sound at the wheel when you move them back and forth, for example, in a parking lot.

Solid Suspension

If you install some tie rods after you used a tie rod puller to remove the old ones, then the new tie rods will keep the suspension very solid. You will feel that immediately upon driving the truck again. When the tie rods start to wear out you can feel a looseness in the steering. This condition may result in your truck beginning to shake at the wheel and vibrate at the steering wheel as you accelerate. You can review a Toyota pickup forum or two and see what else may contribute to the vibration. Almost for certain, it is something in the front suspension and very likely it is the tie rod. When a tie rod is worn, it tends to break very quickly. You will want to fix it quickly.

The Cost of the Rod

The cost to replace your tie rods on a Toyota pickup will be between $279-$497. More than half of this is for the labor. This is a relatively simple job you can do yourself. If you need some extra help you can find a video or two online that will help you with the process. Seems to be a good product. However I don't really like the fact that they have nylock nuts instead of Crown Nuts with a Cotter Pin. Sure hope they don't come off.
