Research on Tail Light for Ford Mustang

No matter which generation of the Ford Mustang you own, there are some awesome tail lights to choose from. And this includes LED sequential taillights for vintage Mustangs. These lights are brighter than bulbs and improve the car's visibility especially in foggy conditions. Owners of models between 71 and 73 ought to know that these taillights have a two-blinker sequential operation rather than the three-blinker on previous Mustangs. The center lens is for the back-up light and the other two lens panels are for taillights and brake light. Therefore, the inner Ford Mustang tail light flashes before the outer light.

Replacing a Ford Mustang Tail Light

There may come a time when you need to replace a burnt out Ford Mustang tail light. If you own a 4th generation 1994 to 2004 model or the later 5th generation 2005 to 2009 or a 2010 to 2014 model which received a face lift, these DIY instructions should help. The part number for the 2010 to 2014 ford mustang tail lights is 912. The 2005 ford mustang tail light bulb up to the 2009 model has the following part numbers. Reverse # 921, Brake # 4057, Rear Side Marker # 2825, and Signal # 4057.

To get started with replacing the ford mustang tail lights sequential you will need a pair of needle nose pliers. Alternatively, you could use a flathead screwdriver. Make sure to have an 11mm deep well socket with a " drive ratcheting wrench ready as well.

Open the trunk lid and remove the plastic cylindrical fastener which is located at the top of the plastic trunk panel. Use your pliers or flathead screwdriver to remove the plastic pop rivet at the bottom of the panel. Then gently pull the panel that covers the rear corner of the trunk.

Loosen the three 11m nuts of the tail light assembly with your pliers or ratcheting wrench and keep them aside safely.

Now gently pull the tail light assembly off and rest it on the bumper. If you own a model between 2005-09, rotate the socket turn counter clockwise to remove them from the housing. In later models between 2010 and 2014 the LED brake and turn signal light bulbs are the larger sockets while the two smaller sockets contain the reverse light bulbs. All you need is to rotate the socket counter clockwise and pull the old bulb out of the socket and push in the new bulb.

To secure the housing re-insert the socket and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise and then line up the three bolt ends and push the taillight housing back into place. Now all that is left is to spin on the three nuts and tighten them. Don't use too much pressure or over tighten them to avoid cracking the plastic Ford Mustang Tail Light housing. Push the panel back and you are practically done. Don't forget to test the new ford mustang tail lights sequential by stepping on the brake pedal and activating the hazard signals. You will also need to put the transmission in reverse.
