Research on Struts for Ford F150

Today's Ford F150 is a far cry from the original F-Series pickup that your grandfather or great-grandfather drove around the farm. That vehicle, introduced in 1948, was a bare-bones workhorse with leaf springs, designed for utility rather than comfort. Its 21st-Century descendant is not only a work vehicle, it's also designed for comfort, thanks to modern struts and shocks. When it starts driving more like that original 1948 model however, chances are good that it's time for a Ford F150 struts replacement.

The Signs Will Be There

Of course, a rough ride and difficult handling is only one symptom of worn-out struts and shocks. You can actually get ahead of the problem by performing a simple test: when the vehicle is parked on the street of in the driveway, shove down forcefully on the nose or front bumper of the vehicle. The truck should bounce once. If it keeps bouncing up and down, it means that your Ford F150 front shocks are starting to wear out - and the back ones as well. In fact, under normal driving conditions, all four strut/shock assemblies will tend to wear out at the same rate, so when the front ones are going out, chances are good that your Ford F150 rear shocks are headed for their demise as well. You might also want to get under the vehicle and check for leaks as well.

Ford F150 Struts Replacement Costs

Aside from labor costs and shop time (which you can avoid by doing it yourself), the price of struts and shocks for the Ford F150 can range from as little as $72 for a basic assembly to a whopping $430 for a high-performance coilover IFP shock. Shocks for older F150s tend to be less expensive as well; 1990 Ford F150 shocks start at around $40 apiece, where as 2010 Ford F150 struts can be as much as $164 each. If you do have it done by a professional, plan on spending about $300 for the repair (the job typically runs about three hours). Keep in mind that shocks are usually replaced in pairs, so you'll be doing both Ford F150 front shocks at the same time (or Ford F150 rear shocks, as the case may be). Ford F150 struts replacement is really part of a regular maintenance routine; depending on where and how hard the vehicle has been driven, these components are bound to fail at between 50 and 100 thousand miles.

2007 Ford F150 Strut and Coil Spring Assembly

Very good product. Easy to install and provides a far better ride than the factory coil and struts. 33.5" tall tires fit well with room to spare and no rubbing. My only complaint is that one of the struts arrived with a broken plastic adjustment knob. May have occurred during shipping, but a weak part nonetheless on an otherwise excellent product.
