What is a steering damper?

A steering damper helps to stabilize the handling of your truck. It is in the steering column and stops the side-to-side play in the steering. It enhances the safety of your truck, too, by ensuring you can accurately steer without wobbling or play in the steering wheel.

How much does one cost?

It will run you about $25-$100 for a new steering damper. This is part cost only, though. If you need to hire someone to put it in, then you are looking at extra labor costs.

What are the signs of a bad steering damper?

If your steering damper is going bad, you are going to feel it when you steer. It may feel loose or wobbly. Generally, you should not be able to wiggle your steering wheel side to side, but if your steering damper is bad, then you will be able to do that. You may also notice a reduction in the ability to control the steering when you are off-road. It may feel like your truck is being pulled because of this lack of control.

Some of our Customer Reviews
Neither Satisfied Nor Dissatisfied
Reviewer: Rancho steering damper

I received 2 steering dampers as that's what I ordered so that's a good thing. They fit as good as oem. They came with no directions but extra parts. It would have been nice if the boot had been installed but I think I figured it out. it needs a plastic tie to secure the boot ot the body because the first time you turn left to the axle stop is the last time the boot is on the steering damper. Also boot could be longer or the steering stablizer body marked as its a guess as to where to place it.as to function time will tell as I've only driven with it about 30 yards. I don't understand why all these sites want a person to review there products as soon as you get them. As far as I know one of the ends will break off on my first trip to the store or it will blow a seal
