Ford F250 Super Duty Replacement Steering Damper Information

The steering damper is a key component of a safe and comfortable steering system, particularly for heavy duty trucks such as the Ford F250 Super Duty pickup. If you have experienced problems with steering function, or particularly rough riding, the steering damper may need to be replaced. Often a faulty steering damper quickly leads to other problems with steering and suspension. You may notice excess vibration in your hands when steering the truck, and find the trucks wheels are less responsive to steering wheel movements. It is dangerous to drive a truck with a non functioning or compromised steering damper, particularly in off road conditions. It is common for drivers to lose control of their steering wheel and cause dangerous accidents when driving heavy trucks with a missing or non-functioning steering damper. This replacement steering damper is designed for use in designated models of Ford F250 Super Duty truck.

Research on Steering Damper for Ford F250 Super Duty

If you've only driven cars before, you may not know that your Ford F250 Super Duty has a steering damper, also called a steering stabilizer. This part is designed to improve handling and comfort when driving, and when it goes out, you could find steering harder than it had been in the past. Luckily, if you experience Ford F250 steering stabilizer problems, you can get the part replaced and get back on the road.

What is a Steering Damper?

To keep your truck moving straight, Ford installed a steering damper. This part helps to keep the steering wheel from wobbling, which can cause wear on your suspension system as well as your arms. Most smaller vehicles do not need this part because they have smaller wheels and ride closer to the ground, so the effects of driving on the steering wheel are lessened, but with large trucks and SUVs that have bigger tires, the road vibrations are transferred to the steering wheel. A damper reduces these vibrations to make driving more comfortable and the vehicle easier to handle. As with any part that absorbs motion and vibrations, your steering damper will eventually need to be replaced, and there will be several signs that it's time for a new damper.

Symptoms of a Failing Steering Damper on a Ford F250 Super Duty Truck

When your steering damper begins to wear out, you will start to feel it in the steering wheel. Since the job of the damper is to reduce the wobble of the wheel, a bad part will cause the steering wheel to move more than it should. You may also notice problems with the steering wheel not turning as it should or feeling that it locks up sometimes. These are indications that you should consider lifting the hood for Ford F250 steering stabilizer installation. Driving for too long with a damaged steering damper could put excessive wear on your suspension system and tires, leading to needing premature replacement of those parts as well. Installing a new steering damper before it causes other problems will only save you money in the long run.

Cost for a F250 Steering Stabilizer Replacement

When your steering stabilizer needs to be replaced it could cost you hundreds of dollars for a mechanic to do the job. The average price for a mechanic to replace a 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty steering damper is $120 to $129, which includes the parts and labor charges. You could save money if you need to have an F250 steering stabilizer installed on your truck. If you have any experience replacing parts on your truck, you could save a lot of money by replacing your own steering damper.

How to Save on a New Steering Damper

Installing a steering stabilizer or damper does not have to cost you hundreds of dollars. By choosing to replace the part yourself, you can choose which brands to buy and save over having a mechanic do the installation for you. Heavy duty steering dampener lives up to it's name. You have heavy resistance to movement, perfect. When I replaced the one on my Ford F-250 Super Duty, I used the original shouldered bolt from Ford rather than the bolt supplied. The shoulder was absolutely necessary and the supplied bolt had no shoulder. The U- bolts supplied were a smaller diameter but still should be sufficient.

Reviewer: Great Product Fast Shipment

My truck has a 111,000 on it and noticed the tie rod and associated components had failing rubber boots that held lubricate grease. Replaced with Moog Components. However the biggest difference maker in tightening up the steering components was the addition of the Rancho Steering Damper. Great product, looks and performance. No more death wobble!! I plan to use their shocks on the next project.
