Research on Shocks for Ford Focus

Shocks and struts are integral suspension components in every vehicle and like other parts, they are subject to wear and tear. You should make them part of your regular vehicle maintenance and make sure that they are not worn out or damaged. If they are and you still drive your vehicle, it can lead to expensive repairs and damage to other components as well. The good news is that there are signs and symptoms that indicate when your shocks are worn out or failing and you need a Ford Focus shock absorber replacement.

When to Replace Your Car's Shocks and Struts

When it is time to get your shocks or struts replaced, there will be obvious signs. It is good to know what these signs are so that you can get a replacement promptly and ensure everyone's safety when you are on the road. These signs include poor steering response, noise or stiffness when steering; damaged or dented strut or shock bodies; excessive "nose dive" or instability when brakes are applied; uneven or cupped tire wear; fluid leakage from strut or shock body; corroded, damaged, worn or damaged mount or bushings; vehicle swaying or leaning when changing lanes or turning; and excessive vehicle bounce.

Visual Signs: If you are wondering if it is time to replace your vehicle's shocks, examine your car for any signs of problems. Visual signs include fluid leaking from the shocks (shock absorbers are filled with fluid) and mounts or bushings that are visibly damaged or dented. You should also check your tires as uneven wear or cupping is one of the signs of worn shocks. If you notice any of these signs, you should get your vehicle to a reputed auto shop as soon as possible and get a certified mechanic to inspect and diagnose the problem. If the problem is worn shocks, you will probably have to get them replaced immediately to prevent further damage and ensure your safety on the road.

Other Factors that Determine If You Need Shock Replacement

Manufacturers generally recommend replacing struts and shocks when your car's mileage is at about 50,000 miles. This is because original equipment shocks and struts may be worn out to the point of needing to be replaced. However, you should also keep in mind that the condition of the roads you frequently drive on and how you drive plays an important role on when you should get your shocks replaced.

Not a perfect fit for a Ford Focus, couldn't use the original special upper bumper and rubber retainer used on the Focus. However flipping over the rubber bushing supplied with the new shocks worked just fine and these shocks worked better than the originals. Better than new ride!
