Research on Shock Absorber for BMW 328xi

The shock absorber is a nifty invention that has a storied history. Your car drives smoothly and quietly in part thanks to this important suspension component. By its very nature, the shock absorber takes on a lot of abuse. Dampening up and down motion comes at a cost. The part eventually wears out, leaks, or fails, making your ride extremely unpleasant. You can drive with bad shocks, but it does affect other systems of the vehicle. Extreme wheel and tire wear can add to the expenses later on. There are also safety issues if you do not replace a shock absorber that is worn out.

When to Replace a Shock Absorber

A bad shock absorber is fairly obvious. Any motion or vibrations originating from the tires going over the road will be felt inside the car. The cabin will become very bumpy and shaky. When turning, the car will shift with its weight, toward the outside of the turn. This side to side motion can make the car hard to handle. Steering control can suffer depending on the road conditions and the wheels can even lift off the ground without enough support from the suspension. Shocks should be checked every 50,000 to 60,000 miles to be sure there is no damage. Your 2007 BMW 328xi rear shocks are probably due for an inspection if they haven't been replaced.

There are other signs of a problem. The rear of the vehicle can dip down far enough to contact the ground, especially if you drive over low areas of the road. Indicating a shock absorber or strut problem, this can do a good deal more damage to the car if not corrected. Go for 2007 BMW 328xi rear shock replacement as soon as you can. If you step on the brake pedal and the car plunges forward, the 2007 BMW 328xi front shocks are the culprit. Steering and overall control become difficult.

What Is the Front Strut on a Car?

A strut is a complete suspension component. It includes a shock absorber and a coil spring. The spring can absorb the energy produced by the motion, and the shock dampens the vertical oscillations. This structure connects the wheels and suspension to the car's frame. The 2007 BMW 328xi front struts support the heavier weight of the front end of the car, with the engine, and serves as a primary dampener for the initial shocks on the road to the vehicle.

How Much Does It Cost to Replace Shocks and Struts?

As a car owner, you undoubtedly feel the need to prepare for the expense of 2007 BMW 328xi struts. The prices range from $369 to $536 for a front strut/shock absorber and $715 to $1,045 for both, to the more reasonable rear shock absorber. It can go for $322 to $399. Replacing both rear shock absorbers can run as high as $688. You may actually pay a higher price for shop labor. Taxes and fees are in addition to these numbers. Having to replace shocks or other automotive components can feel like you are not in control. One are you can take initiative, however, is by obtaining parts online. Suppliers such as offer a unique advantage. Our low operating costs make it practical to reduce the prices of parts we sell exclusively online. If you lose a shock absorber, that means you don't have to spend quite as much to get things running smoothly again.

After validating the shock on the Bilstein web site as 24-120395 I ordered them. I was not absolutely sure that I ordered the right shocks because Parts Geek did not show the Bilstein p/n but instead use their own p/n anyway they showed 6 in stock and within 2 days I had them.
