Research on Knock Sensor for Toyota 4Runner

Toyota 4Runner Knock Sensor

When you want to get out to the places where you can explore as easily as you get downtown for dinner, you know that your 4Runner is your best choice. That’s why you keep it in shape, too. When you get the message that your knock sensor is out, a replacement Toyota 4Runner knock sensor is the only way to make sure your engine’s onboard sensors can detect possible engine issues and take the proper steps.

Parts Geek stocks all the sensors you need, from knock sensors to oxygen sensors. Millions of listings across hundreds of vehicle categories provide car owners with every option for performance and manufacturer of choice that we are able to locate.

What is a Knock Sensor?

This sensor produces a signal whenever it detects engine knock, which allows the engine’s onboard computer to adjust factors like the speed of the engine to ensure that knock goes away. It is a vital part of preventing the development of long-term engine knock, which can be a sign of impending engine failure.

How Much Does a Toyota 4Runner Knock Sensor Cost?

There are a variety of price points for knock sensors. In general, when you are looking at the prices, you are looking at three tiers:

  • Aftermarket stock parts that are made to the specifications of the original equipment design by parties that were not licensed to produce them for production
  • Original equipment manufacturers licensed by automakers
  • Performance equipment manufacturers that create parts that far exceed the original design specifications while incorporating new materials and design innovations

If you’re looking for a price window, the lowest priced parts start around $90 and the higher end ones can occasionally exceed $300, depending on the tier.

What is Engine Knock?

Engine knock, also known as spark knock, is what happens when a separate pocket of fuel and air ignites after the main one has ignited in the chamber, creating causing two combustions in the same chamber on an engine cycle.

Worked great on my 01 RX300, got one for each bank, since one was bad, the second was not too far behind. High quality parts at a much lower price. If you are having issues with your knock sensor, get one for each side otherwise if you get only one new sensor that new sensor will respond faster than the older sensor in the other bank and the PCM will falsely throw a knock sensor circuit code. The PCM was throwing a P0325 (knock sensor circuit bank 1 fault) code, after some diagnosis and I verified that the knock sensor was faulty and replaced both banks. The sensors work great and I've had not had an issue since, hope this helps. - William Kell
