An ignition lock is a lock that ensures that only one specific key can start the engine of one specific vehicle. It is integral for the safety of the vehicle. The ignition lock housing is a small metal cylinder, and is a very small part of the big assembly of the steering rack, which is specifically made to fit around the internal key assembly. Research on Ignition Lock Housing for Volkswagen Jetta
If your Volkswagen Jetta ignition lock housing needs to be replaced, when you start looking for a new one, you might have a hard time describing what you need. How do you describe it? It is, you know, that doohickey that houses your ignition that is made of metal, you think, and there are other cogs in there that make the car start when you put the key in the little slot. You might find yourself using other descriptive adjectives such as doodad, contraption, gizmo or thing-a-ma-jig and wonder why nobody knows what you mean. What is wrong with people? You are so misunderstood. Your friends wonder if you learned Swahili while you were on that African safari. At partsgeek.com, we do not speak Swahili but we do talk gizmos -- lots of them. Log on and find the exact doohicky you need, including your Volkswagen Jetta ignition lock housing.
What is a Gizmo, or um, Volkswagen Jetta Ignition Lock Housing?
As the name states, your Volkswagen Jetta ignition lock housing actually houses, or contains, the rest of your ignition assembly including the Volkswagen Jetta ignition switch and Volkswagen Jetta ignition coil. The ignition is basically a starter switch that is used to control and activate the main electrical systems of the vehicle. This electrical start up process provides power for the starter solenoid and the components of the ignition system. This usually turns on accessories such as your power windows and radio. Unless you own a newer model vehicle that does not require a key, the ignition switch usually requires a key to be inserted that activates a lock built into the switch mechanism. It is often combined with the starter switch that starts your engine.
You can, of course, bypass the ignition assembly. You would to this by disconnecting the wiring to the switch and manipulating it directly. This is referred to as hot wiring a car. We do not recommend this at partsgeek.com.
What Happens If Your Volkswagen Jetta Ignition Lock Housing Wears Out?
Like, most auto parts, your Volkswagen Jetta ignition lock housing may eventually wear out. This may be due to typical wear and tear over time or some mechanical issue that creates stress on the system. Either way, you can get a quality part from a reputable manufacturer at partsgeek.com. It is in your best interest to buy a new part rather than an aftermarket part or refurbished one, otherwise you may find yourself having to purchase yet another part shortly after replacing it the first time. You need so seek out a Volkswagen Jetta ignition lock housing made with quality materials that will sustain wear over time.
Is This Doohickey Going to be Expensive?
Whether you are experiencing Volkswagen Jetta ignition key problems or Volkswagen Jetta ignitition lock problems, you will find what you need quickly and easily by logging on to partsgeek.com. Expect to pay between $127.90 and $159.50 for your Volkswagen Jetta ignition lock housing. Browse through a huge selection of gizmos, doohickeys, thing-a-ma-jigs and parts for your ignition system assembly and more at partsgeek.com.
The part is an exact fit for the original. That's the good part. The bad is that the security bolts that you DESTROY while removing them with a chisel are NOT included with the lock. What's up with that?? You can either go to your VW dealer and get them (if they have them in stock, I didn't check) or you go to your hardware store and obtain replacement bolts. So please don't tell anyone that my Jetta is more steal-able because the column lock can be removed with a wrench... - Perfect fit, no bolts
Product performed flawlessly and even came with a new ignition switch, which I wasn't expecting. The most difficult part was getting rid of the safety bolts and simply replaced with a couple of hex bolts from the local hardware store. I was able to complete this repair over the course of two nights after work: 1 to tear it apart to diagnose, and night 2 to reassemble the ignition/steering column once the part arrived. The package was delivered several days before I was even supposed to receive it, so that was VERY helpful as well. Seems to be working just fine! Too bad the car won't last as long as this new housing will! - Worked like a charm
It was great to find this lock housing at a reasonable price, it was shipped much quicker than I expected and packaged well. The part it's self worked perfectly. - Genuine part, worked perfectly
This part was not only the cheapest we found, but it was a VW part. I was thinking from the price it was an aftermarket part. The shipping was very fast. Had the part in 2 days. Very satisfied customer and a life customer. Thanks guys... - Exact VW/Audi replacement part
This was exactly what was needed. It arrived quickly and the car was up and running. - Justin
This part was delivered quickly and appears to be genuine made in Germany. It was in new condition and looks like high quality manufacturing. Happy with it. - High Quality Part
