Research on Fuel Pump for Volkswagen Jetta

Wasting gas doesn't always mean that you are driving too much. Your Volkswagen Jetta fuel pump plays a major role in ensuring that your vehicle remains fuel efficient. A damaged fuel pump could cause extensive damage to fuel and engine system and be a costly fix.

What Does a Fuel Pump Do?

Your fuel pump does exactly what its name suggests. When you turn your car on, your fuel pump pressurizes and brings gas from the tank to the engine. Your fuel pump is an important piece of equipment and when it malfunctions, fuel is not being delivered to your engine.

Signs That It's Time for a New Fuel Pump

Your Volkswagen Jetta fuel pump problems are not always easy to diagnose. However, there are a few signs that you should look for that could be a sign of a problem:

o Difficulty cranking up: If you notice that your vehicle has to be cranked more than once to normally start--your fuel pump could be having trouble. Over time, your fuel pump will go through the normal wear and tear. Although the fuel pump may still pump gas, the lack of pressure will cause your vehicle to struggle with starting the engine.

o Poor accelerating and fuel efficiency: A damaged fuel pump dramatically increases the pressure and the engine's fuel and air ratio. If you feel like you are pressing your gas pedal all the way to the floor or you're spending more money on gas than usual, it may be a sign that you need a new fuel pump.

o Noise from the tank: When you start your vehicle or begin to accelerate, listen for a loud--almost whining--sound from the gas tank. That's usually one of the first signs that there is a disconnect between your fuel pump and your engine.

o Stalling: If you begin to notice that your engine is stalling, your fuel pump may be the culprit. This is especially true if stalling is frequent in addition to the other symptoms listed.

If your Jetta isn't starting--don't count out the fuel pump. Although there can be a well-spring of issues, it could be an indication that your fuel pump is not producing and providing enough gas to the engine. This lack of fuel will shut down your vehicle's ability to move. In addition, the fuel pump works closely with your Volkswagen Fuel Filter. After inspecting your pump, if you determine you need to replace it it's a good idea to replace the filter also.

Budgeting a Replacement Fuel Pump

Like any vehicle repair, your new fuel pump could cost you big bucks. The price of a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta fuel pump can run anywhere between $250.00 to $400.00. If you are also going to jump at the chance to replace the fuel filter it could cost an additional $120.00. Reviewer: VW Fuel Pump Purchase

I recently had to replace the fuel pump in my 2004 VW Jetta. I was happy to find it for a decent price here on It came in an efficient amount of time. The only thing I was not impressed with was how it was packaged, I felt like it could have been a little better secured in the box. Turns out, for my car the casing the pump was in wouldn't fit in my tank, but we made the new pump work with the old casing and now my car is running fine.
