Research on Fuel Pump for Hyundai Accent

The electric fuel pump that is fitted on your Hyundai Accent is the component that fuels the engine's combustion chamber with the necessary fuel pressure. However, as with all other components in a vehicle, there can be Hyundai Accent fuel pump problems. Faulty pump valves or pump bearings that are worn out may cause the fuel pressure to go higher or lower than normal. In such cases, you will need to replace the fuel pump.

How to Replace a Fuel Pump

Have you always gone to an auto body repair shop to get your worn or damaged fuel pump replaced? You probably spend a good deal of money for the service. Well, now you can do the replacement job yourself and save yourself a lot of money.

Tools Needed: To replace the fuel pump in your Hyundai Accent, you will need a screwdriver, wrench set, and spanner wrench. Make sure that you have these tools as well as the new fuel pump ready before you begin the task.

Relieve the Fuel System Pressure: First off, pull on the retaining strap that is located towards the back of the rear seat and remove the cushion. Then pull the seat upward. Use the screwdriver to pull the access door panel on the floor through the hole. Press on the lock tab and pull the plastic fuel pump module connector from the harness and unplug the connector.

Next, start the engine and allow it to idle until such time that it stalls. Next, crank the engine for about 3 seconds or so and turn the ignition switch off.

Remove the Fuel Pump: Using the wrench, disconnect the negative battery cable (the black one). Disconnect the fuel supply, vapor and return lines from the sending unit/fuel pump assembly by pressing on the plastic connectors' lock tabs. Do this through the door access panel. Next, press the lock tab to pry the fuel sender connector and take it off its harness.

Use the spanner wrench to loosen the lock ring that holds the sending unit/fuel pump assembly into the tank, turning the lock ring counterclockwise until you release the ring. Lift the sending unit assembly/fuel pump off the fuel tank. Remove the fuel pump from the assembly.

Install the New Fuel Pump

Now, the next step is to mount the new fuel pump on the sending unit/fuel pump assembly. Set the assembly in the tank with the sender unit extension arm that points toward the fuel tank rear. With the spanner wrench, turn the lock ring clockwise and lock the sending unit/fuel pump assembly in place. Plug the fuel sender connector and connect the fuel supply, vapor and return lines. Next, replace the access panel door, install the rear seat cushion and connect the negative battery cable.

Cost of Fuel Pump Replacement for Hyundai Accent

To replace the fuel pump in your Hyundai Accent, you will need to spend between $193 and $358. Estimated labor costs are between $70 and $89 while parts will cost between $123 and $269. Keep in mind that this estimate excludes fees and taxes.

The pump came with everything we needed. We had a problem with the Rubber cap part that came with it fitting, so we had to use the old one which worked and was still fine.
