Research on Fuel Pump for Chevrolet Malibu

Taking its name from the Californian resort town of Malibu, The Chevrolet Malibu is a mid-size car that was manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet from 1964 to 1983. After a break of 14 years, production resumed in 1997. The Chevrolet Malibu fuel pump is responsible for moving the gas from the fuel tank to the engine. Under average conditions a carburetor using air vacuum is has enough strength to draw the fuel from the tank to the engine. However, a fuel pump is not only the more efficient part for the job, but can help the carburetor perform its job better. In recent years, there has been a tendency to do away with the carburetor altogether, and making the job of delivering gas to the engine the exclusive domain of the fuel pump.

Where is the fuel pump located?

If you are using a mechanical fuel pump, it can be found on the side of the Chevrolet Malibu´s engine. If the vehicle has an electric fuel pump, then it is usually found inside the gas tank itself.

Chevrolet Malibu Fuel Pump Recalls

There have been two fairly recent Chevrolet Malibu fuel pump recalls.

On February 2, 2011 Ti automotive recalled fuel pumps part numbers TU456 and TU30303, sold under various brand names as aftermarket and replacement equipment. It was stated that the defective fuel pump may seize, stopping the fuel flow to the engine, and creating a stalling condition. The consequence of this defect is that a vehicle crash could occur should the engine stall while in use. Ti Automotive accepted their responsibility to replace any defective fuel pump with a new or reworked fuel pump free of charge.

Aertex Products, LP (Airtex) recalled fuel pumps model number E3591M sold between June 10, 2013, and August 16, 2013. The fuel pumps were made for certain General Motors vehicles, including the Chevrolet Malibu (2004 to 2008), Pontiac G6 (2005 to 2008), and Saturn Aura (2007 and 2008). It had been discovered that the fuel pump had an electrical connector which may not properly seal. The lack of seal may allow fuel to escape, increasing the risk of a fire.
