Research on Exhaust System for Dodge Ram 3500

The exhaust system is one of the most important parts of your truck. It is a series of components that direct exhaust gases out of the combustion chamber and reduce emissions. Cracked pipes, blockages, and failed catalytic converters are just some of the issues that can damage the entire system. Replacing an exhaust system is not cheap. It is, however, necessary if you want to avoid worse problems or spending more to fill up the gas tank more often. Affordable parts and systems can be purchased online, so you don't pay the highest prices often set by commercial retailers.

Common Exhaust System Problems

Any part of the exhaust system can be affected by rust. It's the leading cause of problems in this automotive area. It can weaken the metal, but bottoming out over bumps can damage exhaust components even if they are not corroded. Clogged mufflers and catalytic converters lead to costly repairs. Even a bad oxygen sensor, which is usually relatively inexpensive to replace, can lead to a rich fuel mixture that can destroy the catalytic converter. Water vapor collecting in the exhaust system is a common issue as well. Condensation, plus road salt and debris, can collect in the pipes and parts and cause holes to form. Bad connectors and flanges may weaken the system. Age and damage are not the only factors contributing to exhaust system failure; your 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 exhaust system may cop out due to misfiring spark plugs, oil or antifreeze getting through, or poor ignition timing.

What Is a Leak in the Exhaust?

A leak of exhaust gases is caused by a hole, crack, or separation somewhere in the exhaust system. It can occur at pipe connections, along an affected pipe, or from the muffler or catalytic converter. Exhaust manifolds can leak as well. The exhaust system deadens noise, so any leak will release not only toxic gases, but loud sounds that can violate local noise regulations.

Why Is My Exhaust Rattling?

There are many reasons for rattling noises, even in a 5 inch turbo back exhaust 6.7 Cummins exhaust system. There could be a misalignment. If metallic in nature, a rattling noise can be due to a loose exhaust pipe, mounting, clamp, or support bracket. A chugging sound, however, means there could be a blockage somewhere.

Cost of Exhaust System Replacement

Whether you need a 6.7 Cummins exhaust or Dodge Ram 3500 exhaust regeneration, there's always going to be the cost factor. Buying an entire exhaust system depends on the parts included and what the supplier charges. Then you have labor, taxes, and fees. Replacing an exhaust manifold gasket can cost hundreds of dollars. Exhaust pipes can easily go for $300 to $400, and can be over $600. That's not even counting if you need a muffler replaced or a new catalytic converter, which can cost $1,000 or more. If you're looking to spend less, PartsGeek.com can help meet your budget. Our operating expenses are low, since auto parts are sold exclusively online and not in stores. We also pass the savings on to customers like you, so the least amount possible is spent on quality auto parts.

2008 Dodge Ram 3500 Exhaust System

Reviewer: Good product, poor listing.

Good system, however PartsGeek has this item listed wrong. This is NOT a 4" system from the turbo back. It includes a 3.5" down pipe, and then swells to 4" after the down pipe. Good clean bends in the pipe and quality clamps.

2002 Dodge Ram 3500 Exhaust System

Very Satisfied
Reviewer: 2003 dodge cummins

Arrived immediately and installation went smoothly except last joint which would not clamp down even with extreme leverage. Rotated tail pipe and it finally tightened down. The system is louder than stock but not obtrusive.

2003 Dodge Ram 3500 Exhaust System

Very Satisfied
Reviewer: Magna flow exhaust

Looks like a quality product with many options for customizing. Different turbo mounts for the downpipe and plenty of hangers to support properly and reduce drone.
