GMC Sierra Recalls

Complaints about Sierra's braking system have been a regular thorn in the side of General Motors. A loose brake pedal pivot nut was the culprit in a recent major recall. A lesser recall from 2006 involved the effect of an aftermarket hub assembly's negative impact on the brake rotor dust shield.

Recall Date February 4, 2016...General Motors will recall over 473,000 North American examples of the 2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, and police pursuit versions of the Chevy Tahoe. On these vehicles, the brake pedal pivot nut may become loose, causing the brake pedal to be loose or inoperative. If the brake pedal becomes loose or inoperative, it could interfere with the accelerator pedal, and/or the driver may be unable to safely stop the vehicle through application of the brake pedal, potentially affecting stopping distances and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Dealers will inspect the pivot bolt installation to determine whether the vehicle has already received the production remedy. If not, the dealer will add adhesive to the nut, and reinstall the nut at an increased torque.

Recall date JUNE 06, 2006... Certain Federal-Mogul national and Carquest aftermarket hub assemblies, P/N 515058, sold for use on 6,800 2001-2006 General Motors 1500 and 2500 4WD trucks, including the GMC Sierra 2500HD. On the subject hub assemblies, the ABS sensor cord departs from the hub assembly at a 90 degree angle. As a result, there is a fit issue with the brake rotor dust shield interfering with the ABS sensor cord. If the hub assembly is installed despite this interference, the gap between the ABS sensor and the tone wheel may be altered. This may weaken the output of the ABS sensor. Diminished output could result in an unwanted ABS activation at low speeds and stopping distance could be affected. If stopping distance is limited, a vehicle crash could occur. Federal-Mogul notified its owners and will either credited the customer's account or replaced the unit.
