Research on Brake Pads for BMW 750Li
The sixth-generation BMW 7 Series, as represented by the 750i and 750Li, defines luxury and performance. The premium 7 Series has been upgraded to offer class-first technology and fresh levels of chassis refinement. A new vertical kidney grille integrates a porthole for the night vision camera, and an active grille opens and closes automatically to improve aerodynamics. Also new to the 7 Series is the standard addition of BMW's new Laserlight technology. While the vehicle doesn't actually use lasers, the technology utilizes high-intensity LEDs that unify to double the viewing range of the most powerful LED headlights.
The 7 Series uses a hybrid of carbon-fiber, steel and aluminum to provide strength and reduce weight, lightening the body shell by more than 88 pounds. It's particularly useful in parts of the car that withstand high directional forces and in places such as the B-pillar. Deformation following an impact is prevented by distributing force around the car. In total, the sixth-generation car is now around 264 pounds lighter than the fifth-generation. Advanced suspension technology teams two-axle air suspension with variable dampers and a world-first electro-mechanical active stabilization system that responds more quickly than previous-generation systems and ensures that the 7 Series sits almost entirely flat through corners.
BMWs have excellent braking systems that provide optimum driving safety. However, even these systems can fail, and when signs of braking defects are noticed or warning lights seen, the issue must be promptly addressed.
What is the Brake Pad's function?
When you step on the brake pedal, the master cylinder sends pressurized fluid to the brake calipers. The caliper presses the brake pad against the brake rotor, causing friction that slows down the car. During normal usage of the brakes, brake pads wear out and become thinner. If the thickness of brake pads is less than 3mm, it is time to change the pads. Depending on where you drive, brake pads usually last between 30,000 to 35,000 miles.
In these vehicles, you will also need to replace the brake sensors as part of the brake pad service.
What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Brake Pads?
BMWs are equipped with a low-pad-warning system. In addition, you may notice grinding, squealing, or screeching noises when you apply brakes, as well as steering wheel vibration.
What is causing the brake warning light to come on if the front brake pads have been replaced?
It is likely there is a damaged sensor causing the warning light and will need to be reset. If the problem remains, check the rear brake pads to see if they are worn and causing the light to come on.
How important is brake pad maintenance?
If you drive with worn-down brake pads, braking distances increase, and you risk damage to the brake rotors. More importantly, you put yourself and others at risk. Brake repair should be completed if the brake pads are less than 3mm thick to ensure safe operation of your car.
What is the BMW 750Li Brake Pads replacement cost?
PartsGeek offers the Akebono brake pad set for the rear at $65.33 and the front at $78.33. Prices for the EBC sets are somewhat higher, at $98.14 and $122.98, but are worth the extra expense.
