Gates makes this timing belt kit for installation on 1990 through 1997 and 1999 and 2005 Mazda Miatas. Parts included in this timing belt kit are the tensioner, idler, and the timing belt. The timing belt must be purchased based on the correct vehicle make, model, and year to ensure that it will fit on the engine. Installation must carefully follow the instructions for the proper fit and tension of the belt. Using the wrong belt or not tightening it to the right tension may prevent it from operating as well as it should. Gates has designated this timing belt kit for use on Mazda Miatas made in 1990 through 1997 and from 1999 to 2005. It may not be used on 1998 models.
