In cold weather, you rely on your car’s heating system to keep the passenger cabin warm and toasty. The system that heats your passenger cabin is closely linked to the engine, because engine heat is efficiently recycled to become heat for the passenger cabin. This is a particularly useful system that effectively draws on your car’s available resources. The system begins in the engine compartment, where coolant fluid is heated by the engine. This warmed coolant fluid travels through a heater hose to the car’s heater core, where the heat energy is transferred to cabin air. The transfer of heat from the coolant fluid to the cabin air is made more efficient by fins on the system’s tubes, which effectively increase the amount of surface area available for heat transfer.
