Okay, we’ve all been here: you climb into your car, ready to head to work, and the machine won’t start. You turn the key and are met by an unfriendly click, staggering silence, or the sounds of some distant internal struggle. Cars seem to have a way of knowing when we need them the most and choosing that exact moment to stage a small revolt. This system is responsible for jump-starting your internal combustion engine every day – so you’ll want to care for it properly. One key component of the ignition system is the distributor, which is responsible for transmitting electricity from the ignition coil to the spark plugs. The spark plugs then give off the spark that sets the internal combustion process moving. Inside the distributor, the distributor rotor plays a key role. This part is sometimes known as the rotating arm. It is housed inside the distributor cap and on top of the distributor shaft. As it swings around in a circle, the rotor arm passes near to the necessary output contacts that connect to each cylinder’s spark plugs.
