One of your car’s most important systems is the one charged with supporting the vehicle itself and enabling the proper function of the steering mechanism. One key component of this system is the CV boot. To put it plainly, the purpose of this boot is to protect the CV joint. In general, the constant velocity joint is an insertion point where the rotating shaft transmits power at a constant rotational speed regardless of the insertion angle. You’ll most commonly find this joint near your vehicle’s driveshaft, and it’s most likely to appear in cars with front-wheel drive (though you may find it in cars with other designs as well). Because the driveshaft and related components are on the underside of your car, they are particularly vulnerable to damage. The joint can become clogged with dirt, grease, road salt, and water – leading to a joint that locks up and prevents the steering mechanism from functioning.
