The key to this near-magical vehicle braking comes in the form of a brake booster. This component is an important part of power braking and has become a staple inclusion in virtually every automobile on the road today. Under the hood, you can find the device by looking for the circular black canister directly in front of the steering wheel. The component requires no outside power source, running off the simple force of vacuum power. Via a rubber hose that connects to the intake manifold, the brake booster amplifies the pressure applied to the disc brakes. A check valve is also installed, which stores vacuum pressure in the event that the engine stalls and vacuum pressure is unable to be generated. Sometimes, the rubber seal that forms the vacuum pressure wears out over time. This results in an inaccurate seal and typically requires the purchase of a new unit.
