Porsche 914

The Porsche 914 has long been regarded as an automobile like no other. It was quite an achievement for these two automakers Porsche and Volkswagen to come together to create it. The joint effort began in the late 1960s as a way of Volkswagen introducing an example of a sports car using the knowledge of Porsche who also wanted to produce a vehicle that was more low-end. Thus the Porsche 914 was a joint effort between these two companies. The vehicle created contained the latest VW Type 4 engine.

However, a problem arose when the president of Volkswagen died before the Porsche 914 could be created, and the new president of Volkswagen did not want the 914 to be marketed under the Porsche brand name. A deal was eventually reached. In this agreement, parts of Europe would have this automobile marketed as the VW-Porsche 914. However, in the United States it was released by Volkswagen under the Porsche name, but using the expertise of the VW-Audi division.

The Porsche 914 for sale was designed to be a low level car for Porsche, with two seats in this sports car body style. It had a 5-speed gearbox transmission, rack and pinion steering, and a built-in roll-bar. The Porsche 914 was created with two trunks and a 1.7-liter engine operating on four-cylinders with fuel injection. The use of four-wheel disc brakes gave them the power to stop. Drivers did not have a problem with handling the car, but found it to be limited in its acceleration. Analysts attributed this to the VW Type 4 engine with 80 horsepower which took 13 seconds to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in acceleration. This was clearly not what sports car buyers expected from an automobile under the Porsche brand.

The Porsche 914 was a lightweight car, but it received mixed a Porsche 914 review from analysts and consumers. The partnership with VW to create a low-end model did have a detrimental effect on the public's acceptance of the 914. The public did not consider it to be a real Porsche, and critics were not able to look past the use of the VW components. The design and body style appeared awkward to them, and they could not get past the use of lower quality parts in a Porsche.

Porsche tried to rectify the situation by selling a 6-cylinder model of the Porsche 914 called the 914/6. However, the new model had a higher price tag, but the same low quality parts as its predecessor. As you can imagine, the public was cold towards the new model Porsche 914/6. By 1975, Porsche admitted defeat and stopped production of the Porsche 914, after only 120,000 automobiles were sold. Anyone searching to find discounted Porsche 914 parts should not hesitate to visit a website such as PartsGeek.com to find everything you need.

Good quality pump, decent price - but hose fittings included did not work for my 914/4 application. No mounting bracket included so had to modify my old pump bracket.
