In the Volvo S80, there are three types of vacuum pumps present. These vacuum pumps are; the electromechanical vacuum pumps, compressed air pumps and finally entrapment vacuum pumps. Each of the stated vacuum pumps is unique and has their mechanism of works different from the others. The electromechanical vacuum pump works by trapping air which is inside mobile engine parts and then ejecting it through a small pump. Entrapment pumps are specifically designed to trap and confine gases in a designated chamber hence the term 'entrapment'. Compressed air pumps perform their function by decreasing the volume of available space which in turn causes an increase in pressure in the same region. Although in most cases only two are employed, in some cases all the three types of pumps can be used simultaneously. This results in formation of a much stronger vacuum force.
