Chevrolet Astro Replacement Trunk Strut Information
The Chevrolet Astro, a mid-size van on the market from 1995-2005, is popular as a multi passenger vehicle and as a cargo carrier. The trunk lid is supported by a pair of trunk struts responsible for cushioning the travel of the lid and for holding it securely open when the rear of the van is being accessed. These trunk struts, as is common with any hydraulic cylinders, eventually wear with age to the point they become unreliable. They may let the trunk lid open/close a bit too quickly than you'd like, sometimes allowing it to slam shut with undue force. Worst-case scenario is when someone is leaning into the vehicle when the trunk lid is open and it suddenly comes crashing down.
