Volkswagen Golf Replacement Timing Chain Information
Timing chains are a critical but often overlooked part of your vehicle's engine. This device transmits the rotation of the crankshaft to your car's camshaft, which allows the engine's valves to open and close at the right time. Without this component, your engine would run inefficiently and suffer extensive damage. The timing chain was heavily used on cars manufactured through the 1970s and 1980s. Most modern vehicles are equipped with timing belts.
If your timing chain fails, the engine will completely lose its ability to move fuel, air and exhaust. This component typically lasts a very long time. It looks just like the chain on a bicycle. The main symptoms of a worn out timing chain include a sudden decrease in engine performance, inconsistent ignition timing, poor fuel economy, rough idle, intermittent backfire, and the inability to start your engine.
