A Nissan Timing Belt Tensioner on a Altima is a small piece of hardware located inside the timing belt cover just to the lower right of the cover. The Timing belt Tensioner on the Nissan Altima is a vital component in keeping the timing belt in line with the crank gear and the camshaft gear By keeping these two gears in line, the Nissan Altima is able to stay in timing sequence. What this means is that the piston, crankshaft, and distributor all act within set perimeters. Nissan Altima Timing Belt that has the proper timing belt tension will last much longer then a Nissan Altima that has a broken timing belt tensioner.
