Toyota FJ Cruiser Replacement Throttle Body Spacer Information
One quick and easy method for adding some extra power and improve the fuel efficiency of your Toyota FJ Cruiser is to add an aftermarket device called a throttle body spacer. This unit consists of a metal plate, usually made from aircraft grade aluminum, that bolts onto the throttle body at a location just downstream of where the air flow goes into the air intake manifold. This performance device acts to disrupt the air flow by causing it to swirl and enter the manifold with increased velocity. This, in turn, adds more air than is provided by a stock setup, requiring the addition of more fuel, which is required to maintain the ideal air/fuel ratio calculated by the engine control computer. Typical results include more mid-range power, greater low-end torque and crisper throttle response.
