Ford Explorer Sport Trac Replacement Thermostat Housing Information
Your Ford Explorer Sport Trac uses a thermostat specially designed to gauge the engine's internal temperature. If things get too hot, the thermostat signals the cooling system to send more coolant to the engine block. In order to work properly however, your thermostat must be attached to the engine body via a special thermostat housing.
The thermostat housing has to seal around the opening in the engine as well as around the thermostat unit itself. Furthermore, it must be able to keep the thermostat unit from rattling itself out of position as a result of the constant engine vibration.
