Volvo S40 Replacement Thermostat Information
Key to radiator and engine performance, the S40 Volvo thermostat is a tiny part playing a huge role helping the engine achieve peak combustion operation. Were it not for the sturdy S40 Volvo thermostat, the engine could run too cold or overheat. Cool running means poor fuel mileage. Overheating is even worse and could damage, or destroy, engine functionality. The part keeps coolant temperatures consistent by reporting temps accurately.
A 12-volt electrical charge allows the S40 Volvo thermostat to produce its temperature readings based on a coolant line internal sensor. The vehicle computer takes the readings while deciding whether the thermostat valve opens, or closes, to take coolant temp readings. A radiator fan then adjusts coolant temperatures to keep them stable. The Volvo S40 is a compact sedan known for advanced safety features and sold since 1995. Maintaining a good working thermostat allows the vehicle to perform at its best.
