Honda Passport Replacement Tailgate Strut Information
The Honda Passport, a joint venture with Isuzu and Honda's first entry into the 1990's SUV market in the United States, was manufactured from 1994-2002. The rear hatch consists of a tailgate that folds down and a glass window that folds up, controlled and supported by two tailgate struts, or back glass lift supports. These are small hydraulic cylinders similar in design to suspension system shock absorbers. They ensure smooth movement of the window glass when being opened or closed and also hold the window hatch firmly in place when in the open position. Once the hydraulic seals begin to fail these struts lose their reliability, no longer able to properly cushion movement of the glass and potentially allowing the opened glass to come suddenly crashing down. Struts should be replaced in pairs as soon as they begin to falter. PartsGeek.com carries OEM replacements for all model years.
