BMW 318i Replacement Steering Rack Information
Your BMW 318i's steering rack is the perpendicularly oriented component in your steering system that allows your steering wheel to interface with your wheels. It's a metal rod that terminates on either side with pieces of equipment called tie rods. These tie rods connect to steering knuckles in your wheels. Your steering wheel is connected to the steering shaft, which engages the steering rack as it turns. When your steering rack begins to malfunction, you'll notice that it is increasingly difficult to steer your BMW 318i. Your car will wobble off the straight line you're trying to align it along. Your tires will develop uneven patterns of wear. Your steering wheel may begin to vibrate when you try to turn it, and these vibrations will translate to the rest of the car.
