Dodge Dakota Replacement Slave Cylinder Information
Your Dodge Dakota with manual transmission uses a clutch for changing gears, which is operated by a combination of two hydraulic cylinders, the clutch slave cylinder and the master cylinder. The slave cylinder is what activates the clutch, separating the clutch plates, disengaging it from the drive train so a new gear can be selected. The master cylinder is what prompts the slave cylinder into action, transferring the motion of the driver's foot, which is a mechanical pressure, into the hydraulic pressure that, in turn, moves the slave cylinder into operation.
Difficulty changing gears or a spongy clutch pedal usually means that the master/slave cylinders need to be bled of air or that they need to be replaced. If replacing one, it's best to replace both.
