Research on Shocks for Honda CRV

Your compact sport utility vehicle should look and feel as great as it was built to. Bad shocks will take away from your ride. All the smoothness will go away and everyone inside will be tumbled about. When the shocks go bad, every bump in the road is felt, and it can be hard to handle the vehicle. That's not what you invested in a car for. Replace bad shocks and you can get the same ride as when the vehicle was brand new.

Signs Honda CR-V Shocks Replacement Is Needed

The first signs the shocks are wearing out is that every uneven surface makes the ride very bumpy. Every vibration that comes through the road surface and tires will be felt inside. It will be very noisy and the steering might even be affected. The vehicle can shift to the side during turns, possibly taking stability away from the tires. If the tires leave the ground, the vehicle can turn over or you may lose steering control. Also, bad 2008 Honda CR-V struts and shocks in front can cause the automobile to plunge forward when you apply the brakes. This causes excessive wear on the brake pads. Rear shocks can cause the back of the vehicle to bottom out when accelerating. In some cases, the rear of the car can hit the pavement and cause more damage.

Handling the vehicle can become tough with bad shocks. Unpredictable movement in the steering wheel, wind gusts, and poor road conditions can cause the vehicle to pitch. It's therefore good to see if there's any shocks damage every 50,000 to 60,000 miles, unless problems are suspected before then.

What Are Shocks and Struts?

Shocks are shock absorbers that dampen motion. To do so, they feature a piston that moves within an inner cylinder, which is surrounded by fluid or gas. This is contained within the outer cylinder. There are seals and valves that let the inner contents move from one side to another in response to road shocks. A strut contains a shock absorber, but is a more integral part of the suspension and features a supporting coil spring. The spring helps absorb energy and supports the weight and height of the vehicle. If it wears out, then you'll need 2007 Honda CR-V strut replacement.

How Long Do Shocks Last in a Car?

You could expect shock absorbers to last up to five years. However, there is not time or mileage limit. The more extreme the use of the vehicle, the sooner the shocks can wear out. A set of shocks can easily last up to 50,000 miles.

Cost of New Shocks

A pair of front shock absorbers in a 2015 vehicle costs up to $880, and Honda CR-V rear strut replacement can go up to $816. Front shocks top out at $745 in a 2008 model. You'll spend as much as $600 for 2008 Honda CR-V rear strut replacement. At PartsGeek.com, automotive parts are much lower in price, because our overhead is low and we love to help customers like you save on repairs.
