Volvo S80 Replacement Power Steering Pump Information
In replacing a Volvo S80 power steering pump, the owner of the Volvo should always keep in mind that you'll need to bleed the Volvo S80 power steering system to remove air that has entered into the system when the fluid was removed. Unless this air is removed by bleeding the car, the owner will likely hear a whining sound from the Volvo S80 power steering pump when he turns the car's steering wheel. To bleed the system, he will need to locate fluid in two lines that terminate at the pump, the line held in place by a hose clamp and the line (the lower line) and the line held in place by a flare nut (the higher line). After starting the Volvo's engine, he should use a line wrench to open the steering gear fitting just enough to begin letting fluid and air drain until air draining stops. Then, he'll need to close the fitting to stop the fluid from draining. If the fluid level in the power steering fluid reservoir is low, fluid will need to be added. To bleed any air still left in the system, he can move the steering wheel lock to the left and right, then add needed fluid to the reservoir.
