Dodge Charger Replacement Oxygen Sensor Information
Whether you're driving a sub-compact Dodge Charger produced between 1983-1987 or the four-door sedan in production since 2006, your car's performance, economy and emissions systems are dependent upon four little pieces of equipment called oxygen sensors. An oxygen sensor, resembling a spark plug in size/shape, is fitted into your car's exhaust system, two on the left side and two on the right. Upstream sensors, so-called because they are located before that catalytic converter, tell your engine's computer about the oxygen content of the exhaust before entering the cat converter. The computer uses this data to adjust the air/fuel mixture being burned.
Downstream sensors, located after the cat converter, provide information about the O2 content of the exhaust after being catalytically converted, indicating the effectiveness of the process.
