When your Volvo 1800's master cylinder isn't operating optimally, you'll find it difficult to bring your vehicle to a timely stop. The master cylinder is basically a piston in a reservoir of hydraulic brake fluid. When you step on your brake pedal, you force the piston down. This pushes fluid through your brake lines, activating the equipment that stops your car.
