Volkswagen Super Beetle Replacement Master Cylinder Information
If your VW Super Beetle's brake pedal continues to sink even after you've taken your foot off it, your vehicle may have a defective master cylinder. The master cylinder is the reservoir that contains the hydraulic brake fluid responsible for initiating the sequence of events that causes your vehicle to stop on the road. Most master cylinders contain two chambers. One chamber sends brake fluid to the front brakes while the other sends brake fluid to the back brakes. This redundancy is a safety precaution designed to ensure that you are never out on the road without at least one set of functioning brakes. Stepping on your brake pedal forces fluid through brake lines, triggering a caliper. This caliper then engages with the disc or drum brakes, pushing them against the rotor.
