Chevrolet S10 Replacement MAP Sensor Information
The MAP sensor, an important component installed on your Chevrolet S10, has the job of reporting to the engine control module relating to the air pressure found in the vehicle's air intake manifold. MAP stands for manifold actual pressure that, for the purposes of regulating the air/fuel mixture being used in combustion, the computer needs to know for comparison with actual ambient air pressure. One of the engine control computer's major functions relating to engine performance and fuel economy is delivering a precise air/fuel mixture, the ideal ratio being 14.7 to 1. As pressures change, the amount of fuel being used to formulate this ratio must also change.
