Porsche 928 Replacement Knock Sensor Information
The knock sensor on your Porsche 928 is an important device for providing maximum power and fuel economy, while at the same time protecting your engine from damage that can be caused from pinging (pre-ignition) or knocking. The knock sensor permits your Porsche's engine timing to be set in as advanced a position as possible, but not so far as to create pinging or knocking. Tied into the engine control computer, this sensor sends out an alert to tell the computer to slightly retard the engine timing at any point that it senses the vibrations that accompany pre-ignition.
A faulty knock sensor can put your vehicle's engine into an unsafe condition, since the computer is always trying to advance ignition timing as far as possible without creating pre-ignition, which can damage internal parts.
