The first generation Lexus RX300 was marketed from 1998-2003 as a compact SUV, where it became a best-selling luxury crossover, inspiring other car companies to follow suit with flattering imitations. An RX300's idle control valve regulates the engine's idle RPM by opening or closing an air bypass within the throttle body. The valve, which receives instructions from the ECU, can fail by its motor short-circuiting or by developing a high electrical resistance, causing it to react slowly in its operation.
